How can I narrow my GALILEO Search by discipline?
McCain Library librarians were fans of the narrow-by-discipline feature in the pre-2024 Discover Interface. Unfortunately, EBSCOHost chose to leave it out of the new interface, so users cannot narrow the search results by discipline. There are, however, a few search result filters that help access discipline-specific content. McCain Library recommends using one of the following filters:
- “Subject” -- The “Subject” filter identifies the most prominent subject terms associated with items in the search. Selecting subject terms relevant to a specific discipline may help narrow the search to discipline-specific results.
- “Content Provider”—The “Content Provider” filter lists the individual databases that address the concepts in the Discover search. Individuals familiar with specific databases, such as Business Source Complete, Medline, PsycInfo, etc., may narrow the search to content available in selected databases.
- “Limit by Journal” -- The “Limit by Journal” filter enables users familiar with important journals within a discipline to narrow the search results to articles published within those publications. Users unfamiliar with key publications may use the keyword tool in the filter to identify publications that contain discipline-related terms like Biology, History or Sociology.
