What is new and improved in the Discover GALILEO search tool?

There are many great new features in the new version of Discover GALILEO. McCain Library’s favorites include:

1. Easy to share URLs to articles and searches.

  • Use the URL in the browser address bar to share articles on Canvas or in an email. Users may share an individual article or the results of a search.

2. Articles and books opened in a new tab stay accessible until the tab is closed.

  • In the past, users were frequently frustrated to learn that items they thought they saved by opening in a new tab actually timed out after a short period of time. Now that the URLs in the browser address bar remain active, users can safely use this method of keeping articles to review later.

3. Text of articles may be translated into almost any language.

  • In the “Online full text” view option, an article's text may be translated into another language. Researchers should use caution when using translation tools like these as the best practice is to translate an article yourself or hire someone to translate it.

4. Users may listen to an audio narration of the article.

  • In the “Online full text” view option, an article's text may be available as an audio file.

5. Click the “More like this link” to preview up to five articles that are similar to another article.

6. Items may be saved directly to Google Drive or MS OneNote.

7. Once selected, search filters will be retained for all searches until Discover is closed.

8. Users may create project files inside Discover to organize saved items by topic. Files will be saved inside Discover until the user deletes them.

9. Quick access to McCain Library’s FAQ Knowledge Bank, Home Page, and Research Guides for 24/7 research support.

  • You can access McCain Library’s FAQ Knowledge Bank by clicking the speech bubble on the lower right side of the screen.
  • You can access the library home page, the Publication Finder, and Research Guides through the links in the menu to the left.
